Representation Analysis

A wide range of representation is crucial when advertising and branding a product. When the target audience sees ads on their phone, commercials, billboards, etc, they will either be pushed to be purchase the product, or disregard it. It's important making all sexualities, races, and ages feel included in order to sell it to as many people possible.

Axe uses a very degrading approach in their commercial. Young women are shown in bikinis sprinting towards and surrounding a man who is spraying himself with axe. This basically gives the impression that if you use axe body spray, girls will surround you, which is very unrealistic. Since their target audience is men, it is more understandable as to why they would use this technique, all men want to feel attractive, and they will maybe feel as if buying this product will do this for them. As for women, it is a bit dehumanizing as they are showing them as superficial and as if they don't care about personality, just looks.

H&M has a very inclusive and wide representation, many races and ethnicities are in their commercial. I feel this is common in the fashion world as unique features are always seen on high fashion brands. Fashion has no limits, so it does not surprise me that this is the case for their brand. Including so many races and ethnicities will make everyone want to buy these clothes as they have such a wide target audience. Any age, race, and sexuality can wear and look good in these clothes.

Genre Research

 Horror

I immediately gravitated towards horror as it is my favorite genre and something about its darkness and frightening feeling has always attracted me to it.

The meaning of horror is a serious sentiment of dread, stun, or appall. Despite the fact that the portrayal of horror doesn't appear to be so engaging, it is one of the most famous genres that crowds enjoy watching. Regardless of whether it is to demonstrate one's bravery, enjoy the adrenaline rush, or feel soothed with a soft ending, individuals pine for a good horror film. These movies are particularly trending during October, when everything and everybody is in the Halloween spirit. Also, horror film's low budget, which make the investment safer and more beneficial.

Horror movies are about tone, texture, and mood. Not at all like numerous different types that depend all the more vigorously on different components such as dialogue and plot points, extraordinary thrillers are about style. That is not to say that a good horror film shouldn't also have good dialogue and an incredible plot, but instead that those components regularly have less importance to the vivid state of mind and experience that a good horror movie conveys. This being said, one production technique that is universal in all horror movies is underexposing. This isn't gonna develop the story, however, it'll set the dark, gloomy, spooky mood. It leaves more areas of the frame as shadows making the scene more mysterious.

Marketing of horror films is far more superior and original. Branding a movie as "too scary" only builds up that curiosity making the viewer want to watch it even more.

EX:

The Nun by Warner Bros is a film about a young nun at an isolated abbey in Romania that ends her own life, a priest with a spooky past and an amateur on the limit of her last pledges who are sent by the Vatican to research. Together they reveal the request's unholy mystery. Gambling their lives as well as their confidence and their very spirits, they defy a vindictive power as a similar devilish sister that initially horrified crowds in 'The Conjuring 2,' as the abbey turns into an awful landmark between the living and the condemned. This film uses extreme makeup and costumes to create the horrifying character pictured above. Things such as possession, religion, violence and haunting were also incorporated to truly create a scary experience.

    The Conjuring
tells the frightening real story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, widely acclaimed paranormal investigators, who were called to help a family threatened by an evil presence in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. Compelled to face a ground-breaking satanic entity, the Warrens end up trapped in the most frightening case of their lives. One of the most crucial and consistent themes in The Conjuring is possession. This because possessions are so extremely terrifying and make up a huge portion of the fright factor in the movie. It is something so unusual yet terrifying. In addition to the fact that we are terrified for the individual being possessed, we also fear and cringe at seeing everyone in the environment.

The film Annabelle is about a couple who starts to notice reoccurring weird experiences in their home after buying their newborn a doll. This movie uses techniques such as lighting, violence, ghosts, and creepy inanimate objects to scare the viewers and build an overall horrifying experience. Ghosts are predominant in the film Annabelle. The spirit of the ghost connected itself to the doll, making the doll become haunted. If you speculate how it contributes to this movie the ghost is always evil and a frightening contribution to the already existing violence, settings, and other factors that make this movie scary. In Annabelle, the ghost was once a part of a satanic cult and now haunts the family who owns Annabelle. The doll requires a human spirit with the goal that the malicious soul can proceed onward.

Insidious is a classic horror film, that most of you have probably heard of. This movie is about a boy named Dalton who goes into a coma after a mysterious accident in the attic of their new home, the family does everything they possibly can to revive their son. However, little did they know there was so much more to this accident, and the paranormal world was involved. They must rediscover the past in order to save their son. Darkness is possibly the most prominent theme in all horror related things and is generally used to make the impact of the unknown. Darkness is used in insidious to highlight the unknown instead of creating it.The dad enters the realm that his son is trapped in, which is relatively lit and afterward, when he is going back, it gets more obscure and hazier as he no longer comprehends what's going on. The darkness just increases the vulnerability. This is an exceptionally present day method of getting things done and would be profoundly effective in any scenario where horror is used.

The Ring is an iconic horror movie about a girl named Rachel Keller. She is a journalist researching a tape that is thought to have killed four young people, one of them being her niece. An urban legend is said about this tape, the watcher will pass seven days post watching it. If the legend is right, Rachel should run against time to spare her child's and her own life. When we initially get to see the tape, the eerie vibes are immediately felt. As you'd anticipate, it's extremely unsettling and scary to watch, the static with high contrast pictures of a burning tree, a lady tumbling off a cliff and a forest well, which, as we later discover, homes the mother of all malicious and evil, making much creepier.
