"The Last Night" Title

This title, "The Last Night" is based on the situation and the characters of the story. The main characters, Ana and Isa, are trying to enjoy what should be their last night before going away to college. Their "last night" went amok and the title is trying to just give the audience a dramatic effect. It's also a play on words because the opening scene shows Isa and Ana going through photos of "last night" from their "last night" referring to the fact that they are about to be in big trouble. It is an attempt at subtle comic relief, but the title's main purpose is to give dramatic effect.

Editing

Going into this project, my partner and I didn't have much experience with video editing. Therefore, throughout this process, we've had to do lots of research, including talking to people we know with video editing experience. YouTube has been an amazing asset, as there are many step by step tutorials for any question. We have come across lots of editing softwares and experimented with them to find which one we like best and is easiest for us to use. Throughout, we've encountered many obstacles and tried many different softwares and ideas, making the whole thing a learning experience. The old clips and footage helped us fix and to avoid mistakes. Although we don't have much time left to have our projects ready to submit, we have been managing our time well and have a set schedule to avoid any mishaps.

Changes

Although it seems a bit late to modify things, lately we have been struggling with filming. We encountered several issues; the person in charge of recording us wasn't doing it the way we wanted; the lighting, angles, shots, etc could look so much better if one of us was in control. Therefore, we replaced myself, Isa, with our friend, Stefania, as the character "Isa", which is the owner of the house and in control of the party. It ended up working out, as Stefania loves acting and it comes naturally to her. In addition, the shots looked much better as I could better control the certain factors of the shots.

Sound List

There aren't many foley sounds we have to make, however, there are a couple. For example, one of the elements we are adding to our film opening is putting my guinea pig out of the cage as if someone had let him out. We're going to make a foley sound for guinea pig noises. Also, when we go outside we're going to add pool noises, as well as outdoor noises such as bird chirps, and palm trees swaying.

Lighting Scheme

The lighting isn't as crucial to our film as a dark setting would be in a horror movie, or a gloomy one in a jungle placed film. However, as it is the morning after a party it is important for it to be sunny and day-like. Meaning, that all clips must be recorded during the early day. We are manipulating the clips recorded in my room with editing to make it brighter, and give more saturation to the clips.

This is what we intend to do with the clips to add the dramatized aspect.

Obstacles

Spring break has been a time away from reality, it has been tough keeping up with my responsibilities as I am away on vacation. However, we have not forgotten about our project. Since we have many limitations with what we are able to do in terms of proceeding with our project, we decided to begin editing the clips that we have already. Being on vacation with my project partner, Ana, makes this much easier. We are currently experimenting with Davinci Resolve, the editing software, however, we may switch to a different one once we have all our clips ready and are back home.

I am extremely confident in our work and sure we will work out time management, as we have 11 days after spring break, where we plan on working on it everyday, between filming, editing, and getting our CCR ready to go.

Target Audience

The target audience for our film is teenagers of course! Who else would be as entertained by party disasters and chaos than a teenager in high school or college. The specific target audience is anyone ages 15-21 as this is what the stereotypical teenage party setting looks like. Teenagers tend to be attracted to the dramatized movies consisting of people their age, for example, movies that take place in high schools, parties, teenage summers, etc, so that is why we chose this audience.

Costumes

Now that we began filming we can tell you about our costumes! As for Ana and I, we are wearing pajamas of course, and a bit of smeared makeup on our faces. The rest of our characters will be in typical party clothes. Our movie is party-themed therefore costumes aren't strict or need anything specific, just to represent a crazy night.

This is the kind of attire we will be telling our friends to dress in.

Filming!!

Since we already had our props and characters ready we moved on to the next step and began filming! Tuesday and Wednesday we filmed all the scenes that didn't require other people. So the ones in my room, garage, and conversations of us figuring out what do. Filming was extremely fun and we loved getting creative. Our friend is in yearbook and tv production so we asked him to record for us as he knew what he was doing.

Next week we will invite our characters to my house and record the rest of the scenes. I feel like we are doing good with time management, as we will be editing during spring break and finish up everything else post break.

Filming only took about an hour each day as we rehearsed our lines and re-recorded the scenes until they were perfect. We decided to do our scenes separate from the ones that involve other people to avoid distractions and background noise, I feel we made the right decision.

Props!

Earlier today, Ana and I went to target and purchased the props we needed to create our setting. We bought red solo cups, some empty glass bottles to represent liquor, a pool float, and ping pong balls. The rest of the mess will be made by us. For example, taking paintings off the walls and leaving them on the floor, statues knocked down, my guinea pig out of its cage, etc.

We honestly won't need any more props as our characters are technically props as well, used to create the morning after a crazy party effect, and have no lines in our film opening.

We are moving fast with this project and are looking forward to begin filming this week, now that we have our props, our characters chosen and available, a house to work in, and our ideas set in stone.

Storyboard Explanation

Now that we've completed our storyboard, we have finalized every part of our film opening. We finally established that we're sticking with our original idea and here is an in-depth explanation of it.

#1: The 2 girls, Isa and Ana, wake up in Isa's bed.

#2: They notice the mess instantly and are instantly reminded of the disaster that happened the night before, at Isa's house.

#3: As the girls log onto their social media in the morning the start seeing pictures and posts from last night and begin to freak out since Isa's parents come back from the Bahamas in a couple hours.

#4: The girls peek outside of the room and see the house completely trashed.

#5: They notice all the different things wrong, and everything they must clean up/fix, prior to Isa's parents arrival.

#6: People are sleeping and lounging all over her house, including in the pool.

#7: Ana and Isa are still completely stressed out and have lots to do before the parents arrive.

#8: As they keep looking around the house, they come across the garage, as they walk in, they notice the garage door is open. Once they fully walk in, they realize Isa's dads car is gone, and they have no idea why or how this happened.

#9: They begin panicking and the film opening ends.
